Sequoia Inc. and UCP Combine to Provide Quality Care…

On October 7, 2008 the Board of Directors for Sequoia Inc. a 501(c) (3) Organization serving individuals with developmental disabilities throughout the Dallas metro area, agreed to combine with United Cerebral Palsy of North Texas in an effort to continue to provide professional services to people with disabilities now and in the future. “This newly combined entity will allow a reduction in overhead costs, while spreading the remaining dollars over a greater number of clients, thus allowing for more money to be directly devoted to serving our clients” stated Sequoia, Inc. Board President Jon G. Shepherd. “The combined entity will also be better positioned to attract corporate sponsorships and fundraising dollars to help assure sustainability of the important programs” noted Shepherd.

“In today’s climate and for the long term stability of client care it just makes good business sense to build collaborations and create synergies where possible, when you can take two outstanding organizations with similar purpose combine them into one, and reduce the overall cost of operation, it’s really a win, win” noted Rick Hart, Chairman of the Board for UCP North Texas. The combining of the two organizations was made possible in part by the Meadows Foundation of Dallas, who understands the importance of good business practice in the non-profit sector and assisted in the transition through providing a generous grant to support this important endeavor.

The transition of the two entities into one – UCP of North Texas - will be completed prior to December 31, 2008 and each organization will continue providing services without interruption during this process.
